Hemp 101: Where Does It Come From?

Back It Up: Where Does Hemp Oil Come From?

We at cannajoy talk a whole lot about hemp oil. Maybe you’ve began to wonder: where does it come from? Even if you know that hemp oil can’t get you “high,” maybe you’re not sure why that is. Today, we’re diving into the world of cannabis, breaking down the differences between hemp and marijuana as well as hemp oil and THC.

Hemp Oil Versus Marijuana

Both marijuana and hemp are classifications of the cannabis plant. Cannabis comes in the strains of Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis. Hemp oil is always Cannabis sativa, though THC products may come from any of the Cannabis strains. While all strains produce hemp oil in some capacity, they do so in slightly different concentrations. Hemp and marijuana aren’t actually the “technical” names for anything cannabis-related, but we’ve adopted them as broad, colloquial terms.

H4 Hemp Oil

Hemp refers to cannabis that has 0.3% THC or less by weight. This is the legal definition, legitimized two years ago in the Agricultural Act of 2018. In the past, hemp was used as material for vital resources, including things like rope, clothing, paper, and housing textiles, due to its fibrous nature. Once we realized hemp has the powerful ingredients that marijuana does without the psychoactive high, we began growing it to produce more flowering bodies in order to harvest hemp oil!

H4 Marijuana

Marijuana refers to cannabis with any amount of THC over 0.3% by weight. Marijuana’s prominence of THC induces psychoactive, euphoric effects on most users, though it has been known to negatively affect things like anxiety and paranoia in some. Marijuana still tends to have hemp oil, just in much lower quantities than hemp.

CBD Oil Versus THC

Within cannabis, there are 104 known chemical compounds, which we refer to as cannabinoids. THC and cbd oil are the two most prominent cannabinoids found in the plant.

H4 CBD

CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of the other main components of cannabis. CBD is capable of entering your body’s endocannabinoid system, supplementing depleted cannabinoids with cannabis’ plant phytocannabinoids. With CBD, the “bliss” molecule concentration is elevated and systems all throughout your body can function at their best.

H4 THC

THC is short for tetrahydrocannabinol, one of the other main components of cannabis. THC is responsible for the psychoactive properties associated with marijuana’s “high.” THC is the compound not legal for recreational consumption in most American states, still being on the list of controlled substances. It actually offers many of the same health benefits as hemp oil, but is prohibited under federal law due to its mind-altering capabilities.

cannajoy’s Hemp

cannajoy’s hemp hemp oil products sit at just 0.02% THC – far below the legal maximum of 0.3% – but that isn’t the only reason our hemp oil range is the best available. Our hemp is 100% American-made, grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers at USDA-certified organic farms. Our hemp plant material is processed via CO2 extraction, not with chemical solvents like some other hemp oil providers use. Most of all, cannajoy’s mission is to spread joy, which is why we give back to a number of charities with every purchase. We know it’s important to get the best hemp oil products available, and our hemp oil-infused gummies, oils, roll-on gels, and pet treats are just what you’re looking for.
